Gloves do not make you a wuss and bandaids do not make you look like a Bad A.
Back when I worked in the Oil Field I would never do anything without a pair of good gloves on to protect my hands. When I started in Crossfit gloves were not something that many people used and typically in the circles I worked out with they made fun of people who wore gloves. Now that being said I have to say that something you just need to get a little tough and forget the gloves. However there are time when gloves are very important and today I think I will be going out and buying myself a good pair of gloves to use for wods like the one I did today.
I woke up this morning and went to the lake where I have been doing most of my running in the last couple of weeks. It was cold and windy and running did not feel right. Basically I wussed out it happens there will be those days. So I went to the box to get my work out in planning on doing some rowing to make up for the lack of running. So the way I treat myself in WODS is that going slow is ok but the weight will get heavier or the wod will get harder after a certain point. So since I wussed out on the run I had to make it up and I needed to teach myself a lesson that running is better than other things. This is where the gloves should have come in. To start out today I had planned on a 30 min row (granted I did not use gloves very stupid). I completed 6745 meters in 30 minutes not the best but it was a good solid 30 minutes of work. Got off and my hands started to hurt a little bit. I planned out the rest of my work and started getting ready for the WOD. Problem I could not grab a bar. My hands did not look that bad but still hurt like crazy anytime I tried to lift up anything. The lesson I learned from my wife was listen to your body. I decided to call the 30 minute row good for the day and started heading home. I know have blisters on both hands and bandaids going to be my new friend for the next couple of weeks. Lesson from the day running is much easier than rowing for 30 minutes, gloves will save your grip, and sometimes you just need to suck it up and do what is right!
